Located a bit further away from the city center, this neighborhood is great if you don’t want to be right in the busy area, and it’s also known for the lovely views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.
If the foodie in you is wondering about the best places to eat in Naples, then Chiaia will be your favorite spot! I recommend the Signora Bettola restaurant for the best pasta and laid-back atmosphere.
In this neighborhood you’ll find many attractions, like the Villa Communale, an 18th-century royal garden and the Naples Aquarium!

3. Vomero – nicest part of Naples Italy for a local experience
This hilly neighborhood located in the East part of the city is one of the best places to stay in Naples for seclusion, and it has the most amazing view of Napoli.
With Chiaia and Quarter Spagnoli areas nearby, Vomero is perfect for those who crave a local, authentic experience and a secluded stay.
You can take public transportation (metro or the funicular) to go up and down the hill, but going back to your accommodation after these close will require a good amount of climbing!
If you’re looking for a safe area in Naples, Italy, then Vomero is definitely one of the best neighborhoods for you.
What I love in particular about Vomero is that you don’t have any tour guides or big crowds so you get to see the town as it is, with lovely local people sipping their coffees and enjoying the dolce vita.
There are also numerous tourist attractions like the historic market in the Rione Antignano area and the Castel Sant’Elmo built in the 1200s. I recommend reserving at least half a day just to look around it!
Spend the rest of your days walking around Piazza Vanvitelli, eating some delicious street food, and visiting some of the coolest bars in the city like The Penny Black Pub.

4. Posillipo – where to stay for families
A great place to stay in Naples if you’re traveling with the whole crew and you also want to stay in one of the safest areas. Posillipo is located after Chiaia, further west along the coast, and it overlooks Capri.
Although you can get around the area by public transport, I recommend renting a car so you can explore everything.
You can even hit the beach and have a picnic with the family while you’re here or head for dinner in top-notch eateries. Tufo is one of the best compact restaurants with AMAZING, mouthwatering, homemade pasta! Just make sure to book your table in advance.
The main attraction in this area is the Posillipo Archaeological Park, which dates all the way back to Ancient Rome!
If the kids are in the mood to spend some time outdoors, you can take them to Virgiliano Park. There’s also a cute market in the city park from where you can buy souvenirs, and the little ones might find some cool toys that will always remind them of bella Napoli!
What’s nice about Posillipo is that you can combine sightseeing with cool activities like snorkeling or kayaking. La Gaiola island, one of the nearby islands, is a great place to see a protected archeological area under the sea with centuries-old ruins from the Roman period!

If you’re wondering if you can stay in Naples on a budget, then the very roots of Naples, Quartieri Spagnioli (Spanish Quarters), is the right place.
A short walk from the center of the town, you’ll find plenty of budget hotels and Airbnbs on the traditional Italian narrow streets, full of shops and bars, perfect for budget travelers!
As for bars, I recommend the Cammarota Spritz for the ultimate affordable and chic Aperol Spritz tasting!
Out of all of the areas we’ve talked about, in the Spanish Quarter, the street food business is very hyped!
You HAVE to try the pizza fritta (fried pizza) at any of the street food trucks, fried cuoppo (a cup of all things fried), and tripe (if you have the stomach for it!)
In the Spanish Quarter, you can also visit the Toledo Metro Station, which is one of the most iconic stations in Europe!
Grab your camera because there is so much street art in this neighborhood that you’ll stop at every corner to snap a pic for memories.
If you’re staying in the southern part of Quartieri Spagnoli, then you’ll be just a leisurely stroll away from places like Piazza del Plebiscito (with the Royal Palace) and the Opera House.

6. Central Station – for easy access to other areas
Here’s one of the best places to sleep in Naples if you want to travel around and explore other towns, like the ancient city of Pompeii (check out this article for the best Pompeii tour ideas).
This area is located within walking distance from Centro Storico! Also, if you’re looking to stay in Naples for just one night, then the Central Train Station area is perfect! You can get around easily and won’t waste time in traffic.
Besides the train station, you also have the Naples underground station here, Napoli Piazza Garibaldi, so you can easily visit other parts of the city (or take day trips) from the main train stations when you’re in the mood.
I highly recommend having your Italian morning ritual (coffee and pastry) in Piazza Garibaldi. It’s so beautiful and you can just grab a coffee from one of the bars. Come here early before everyone gets ahead of you, and just enjoy the atmosphere before you start another day of sightseeing!
Just take extra caution with your belongings, as the area around the main station is reported to have more thieves and pickpockets (much like in other European cities).
