10 Best Hotels in Paris

Paris is the city that coined the term Palace for its ultra-luxury hotels, of which there are now more than a handful. But rather than pack this list exclusively with Palace Hotels, I’ve ipreferred to nclude a range of top establishments, each catering to a different travel style, situation and need. So, on this list you will find a range of 5-star hotels, like the Hotel Lutetia, to luxury boutique hotels. The five-star luxury hotels are becoming more numerous each year, with the biggest slice of the Paris pie still taken by the three- and four-star hotels. Those have felt competition recently  from the burgeoning vacation apartment rentals to be found in the city.

The range of quality accommodations you can find in Paris is staggering; From dens of luxury and opulence to cosy little apartment-like dwellings. The city offers beautiful accommodations whether you are visiting on business, leisure or for family reasons. You can also find hotels with babysitting services and activities designed for the kids for that date-night with your spouse or the afternoon at the spa.

A wonderful gem to keep in mind is the Auberge du Jeu de Paume located in Chantilly, which is halfway between Paris and Charles de Gaulle airport. This makes it a super convenient stay for a relaxing few days on your way into or out of the city. The idyllic setting, full of chateaux, grand stables and equestrian culture, will make you feel to the manor born.

‘Best’ doesn’t always mean the most lavish, luxurious and glamorous. Sometimes ‘best’ means fun, hip, relaxed, great location and affordable. If you don’t know the Moxy brand by Marriott, this is a good introduction to it. Here you are five minutes by foot from Place de la Bastille, a famously trendy bar/restaurant/café area of Paris. And you are also 5 minutes by foot from Place des Vosges and its adjacent Marais, known for shopping, ancient small streets and lots of Parisian character. The property itself, very popular with American travelers, has a ground floor co-working area, free WiFi, a bar and even a Fussball game.
The rooms are fairly standard, but all come with a big-screen TV, basic bathroom amenities, comfortable beds and minimalist décor. The 6th floor Queen rooms offer roomy terraces overlooking the rooftops of the 11th arrondissement. Convenient, fun, hip, friendly – what’s not ‘best’ about that?

This is one of the most ancient, historical luxury hotels not just in France, but in the world. Built first under King Louis XV’s patronage in 1758, it was inaugurated as a luxury hotel, now a palace, in 1909. It is the only hotel that graces the Place de la Concorde.

Over the past century, celebrated couples have sojourned here: William Randolph Hearst with Marion Davies and Douglas Fairbanks honeymooned here with his Mary Pickford, who famously waved from their balcony overlooking the Place.

Staying at the Hotel de Crillon, now a Rosewood Hotels property, will mark a page in your Life’s Best Moments book. But even having a drink on the newly opened Concorde Terrasse, at the iconic Les Ambassadeurs, or having your nails and hair done or a facial/massage for two at the Sense Spa with Sisley products is assured to be the highlight of any Paris vacation.

Recommended for Best Hotels because: Unparalleled luxury and splendor is what the Palace Hotel experience offers you here on the Place de la Concorde.

This hotel fronts right up against the famous Chateau Chantilly grounds, giving its guests the genuine feeling that you are waking up from your peaceful slumber in a French manor. A Grande Dame of a hotel that lends the grace of her presence to the Place des Pyramides, a square adorned by the golden Jeanne d’Arc statue, the Regina has been fully restored to all her glory.

The lily pad green porcelain ornamental tiling, an historic detailing on the upper floors, has been re-lustered but otherwise untouched. Charming is the old wooden entrance way which gives you that You’re in Paris Now ! welcome as you arrive into the hotel’s splendor.

Its location across the street from the Louvre and the Tuileries affords unparalleled views from the upper corner floors onto the Eiffel Tower. The English Bar off the lobby is cozy and the breakfast room, with its bright-colored accents, a charming contrast to this very dignified, old-world luxury hotel.

A dedicated butler sees to your every whim, round-the-clock, from the moment you check-in. Amenities also include one of Paris’s largest hotel swimming pools, which adjoins the one-of-a-kind Shiseido USpa. Upon arrival, children are gifted a treasure map to search for the hotel’s mascot, a ladybug (which, everyone knows, brings good luck).

Dignified Luxury. This term refers to Fouquet’s Leading Green Certification ethics and its philosophy that the environment need not be abandoned in the quest for luxury. Step foot inside this historical icon located where the Avenue George V meets the Champs-Elysées and you would never guess that the sumptuous gold-and-velvet Jacques Garcia designs surrounding you are sustainably certified.

Fouquet’s is synonymous with French film stars. Each year the winners of the Cesar’s, France’s “Oscar’s”, are féted here with a gala dinner. But back in horse-and-buggy days, it was simply the chosen watering hole of the Champs-Elysées carriage drivers.

Recommended for Best Hotels because: This complete re-do of Paris’ Palace Hotel on the Champs-Elysees makes this more than an upgrade, it’s a veritable reference in the City of Lights.

The sparkling palace that is now part of The Set Hotels fleet, this Rive Gauche landmark is bustling and welcoming. It’s one of the few really luxurious properties on the Left Bank and its proximity to the iconic Le Bon Marche department store and its adjacent gourmet food shop extravaganza, Le Grand Epicerie, makes the setting not only central for shopping but practical, too.

Nearby museums are the Musee d’Orsay and the Musee Bourdelle. And, of course, the Jardin du Luxembourg is just a short stroll away. This property is not just family/ kid friendly, it is also pet friendly. There are several on-site bars that serve as locals’ watering holes. And the street-facing brasserie has once again become the place to meet in this trendy neighborhood, just as it was in decades past, before the recent head-to-toe renovations. There’s even a cigar/smoking lounge hidden behind the speakeasy upstairs.

Recommended for Best Hotels because: Film stars and celebrities choose St. Germain-des-Prés as their favorite neighborhood. And if you’re truly a big spender, book the Josephine Baker suite.

The People Paris - Marais

The People Paris - Marais

This is a hybrid hostel/hotel that perches over the banks of the River Seine in the Marais-Bastille area known as Arsenal. Innovation seems to be bubbling up in the hospitality world, so leave it to the French to come up with a tantalizing concept that marries youth hostel to luxury hotel. (After all, it is the French who gave us Club Med!). This 8-storey steel and cement building has 4 floors of 2, 4 & 8 dormitory style rooms with shared kitchens, lounge and shower rooms on each floor. The top floor is reserved for private rooms, some large enough to accommodate families. The views from the upper floors are breathtaking as you can take in both the Sacre Coeur and the Bastille in one fell swoop. The entire building is squeaky new and one of the most anticipated Paris hotel openings of Spring 2022.

Recommended for Best Hotels because: Clean lines, unbeatable location, minimalist room appointments, comfortable beds, quality bedding and breathtaking views – these are some of the reasons to stay here.
